Racons Públics 2012, 12é racó

Barcelona - Spain 11/2013

The project aims to improve the quality of this space through a minimal intervention. The opening of an alternative access encourages the pedestrian circulation and avoids the garden coming to a dead end. It also establishes a relationship with a warehouse building, creating access directly from the yard, as happens on the opposite side with the Sports Centre building. The courtyard becomes a anteroom to both buildings, and at the same time is a pedestrian path. The furniture and flooring have been placed in continuity with the elements already present in the courtyard, conceived as a unique space. All items require little maintenance and vegetation consists of plants currently in the garden, where the olive tree is the central point.

Racons Públics 2012, 6é racó, 2nd prize

Barcelona - Spain 04/2013

Project published in the magazine Paisea 028

The proposal is intended to encourage the pedestrian use of Pintor Gimeno Street, incorporating it into the path of public spaces present at either end of the street.

A continuous painted strip dictates the routes, leading to private accesses and separating the pedestrian from the vehicular traffic areas; it also continues on the wall vertically and becomes the signs to nearby facilities such as Sant Gervasi Market, train stop and important roads. The same strip turns into a slide and encourages a play area, in continuity with the Folguera Plaza.

The contest was about the renovation of an abandoned industrial building, with the aim of revitalizing the whole area of the city around it. My project wanted to respect the surrounding context, especially the visual relationships that establish the Vila Flor and its garden on one side, and the big park on the other.

The main building has a long facade that runs along the road that leads from the train station to the city center. This facade is preserved, but the three large windows are converted into two accesses to different levels and patios exposed to the light. So the road itself is brought inside the building, and creates a visual relationship between the gardens of Vila Flor and the green area opposite.

The west facade however is remodeled to better take advantage of the sunlight. The plan extends on three points towards the park, while generating small patios within the existing building. Each new cuboid contains different functions: student housing, workshops, offices, and all are connected to the commercial block and restaurants located on the street front. The smaller building is dedicated to sport and is meant to be enjoyed by students but also by the neighbours.

Torneo di architettura Piazza Carlo Forlanini

Roma - Italy 11/2012

With Adrianna Mas/Oriol Vals/Gemma Badesa

The tournament gave competitors 72 hours to present a proposal for the improvement of Piazza Forlanini in Rome. The brief suggested closing the square because of vandalism, and redistributing its zones to make it more usable.

From the question: “What doesn't work in the square now?”, this project aims to improve the usability of the space through better accessibility and circulation, establishing relationships with its surroundings. Rather than close the square, we decided to open it as much as possible, thinking that a public space ceases to be dangerous when it becomes usable, crossable and well lit.
